North African Literature in Translation

Description

This course will use a comparative approach to explore the critical and theoretical understanding of the works of some of the most important North African authors from diverse ethnic backgrounds (Arab, Berber, French and Jewish) in translation. This interdisciplinary course will cover such themes as: colonialism, post-colonialism and neo-colonialism; Islam and modernity; antagonistic cultures and reconciliation; patriarchy; European and North African cultural identities.
