School of Business and Information Systems
The School of Business and Information Systems offers a rigorous and comprehensive business education that emphasizes practical experience. Its mission aligns with that of York College, aiming to enrich students' lives and foster their growth as passionate and engaged learners.
The School provides students with numerous opportunities beyond the classroom. These include participating in faculty-led, grant-funded research, joining various student clubs, engaging in simulations, and accessing experiential learning opportunities such as internships and attendance at local, state, and national conferences. Our outstanding faculty bring a balanced mix of academic research and industry experience to the classroom. Their insights equip our graduates to be immediately effective in their careers while also helping them cultivate a vision for the future, particularly since we are located in New York City, the business capital of the world.
The School comprises two departments, offering ten majors and two certifications.
Accounting and Finance Department
The Accounting and Finance Department offers three undergraduate majors: the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting, the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Finance, and the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting and Finance. Additionally, it offers three minors: Accounting, Finance, and Financial Planning & Wealth Management, all designed to prepare students for careers in accounting and finance.
The BBA in Accounting program includes three concentrations: 1. Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination 2. Advanced Accounting 3. Management Accounting Students who complete the Advanced Accounting concentration within the BBA in Accounting will meet the New York State Education Department (NYSED) “120-to-sit” rule, which allows them to sit for the CPA exam. However, to fulfill the NYSED educational requirements for licensure, students must complete a total of 150 credits. The 150-credit BS in Accounting and Finance program is recognized as a NYS Licensure Qualifying Registered Program. Graduates of this program will meet the updated NYSED CPA educational requirements effective August 1, 2027.
Additionally, through collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service and grant funding, students can participate in IRS training that prepares them for involvement in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This program operates during tax season, providing participants with valuable real-world experience by preparing tax returns for community members under the supervision of faculty.
Business and Economics Department
The Business and Economics Department offers six undergraduate majors: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics, Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Aviation Management, Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Marketing, Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Information Systems Management, Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Human Resources. Additionally, there is one graduate program: Master of Science (M.S.) in Aviation Management. The Business Administration major includes four concentrations: Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, and International Business. The department also offers several minors, such as Aviation Policy, Business Administration, Computer Applications in Business, Cybersecurity, Economics, Marketing, Mortgage Finance, and Real Estate Investment. Furthermore, there are two certifications available: the FAA-approved Dispatcher program and the Real Estate Investment certification. Currently, the primary focus of the Business and Economics Department is to achieve accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), with the possibility of receiving this accreditation in 2025.
The School is actively working to develop and offer 4+1 programs in Aviation and Economics, fully online programs, master’s programs, certificate and training programs, and new minors in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning. The 4+1 program allows eligible students to take up to 16 credits of graduate classes while pursuing their undergraduate degree. The benefits include paying undergraduate tuition for those 16 credits and the opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in five years (4+1).
