School of Business and Information Systems

The School of Business and Information Systems offers a rigorous, comprehensive, and experience-based business education. Its mission mirrors that of York College, enriching the lives of students, enabling them to grow as passionate, engaged learners.

The School offers students ever increasing opportunities beyond the classroom, such as being part of Faculty-led grant-funded research, joining one or more of the many available clubs, the introduction of the use of simulation, experiential learning opportunities ranging from internships to attendance at local, State and National conferences. Our outstanding faculty bring a balanced mix of academic research and industry experience to the classroom. Their insights help to position our graduates to be both immediately effective in their careers as well as have a vision of the future, especially since we are located in New York City, the business capital of the world

The School consists of two departments, consisting of nine Majors and two Certifications.

The Accounting and Finance Department offers two undergraduate majors (BS in Accounting, BS in Finance) and three minors (Accounting, Finance and Financial Planning & Wealth Management) tailored to equip students for careers in accounting and finance. Through collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service and grant funding, students are able to participate in IRS training which prepares them to be part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). This program operates during tax season, giving them the opportunity for real world hands-on experience by preparing tax returns of community members under the supervision of Faculty. A main focus of this Department is the revision of its curriculum to align with the new NYSDOE CPA 150-semester hour education requirements, which will be implemented on August 1, 2027. The department aims to register the newly created 150-credit Bachelor's in Accounting and Finance program with the NYSDOE as the NYS CPA-150 E Licensure Qualifying Registered Program by fall 2025 to fulfill these new education requirements.

While the Business and Economics Department offers six undergraduate majors (BA in Economics, BS in Aviation Management, BS Marketing, BS Information Systems Management, BS Business Administration, and BS in Human Resources) and one graduate program (MS in Aviation Management). The Business Administration major has four concentrations - Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics and International Business. There are several minors namely: Aviation Policy, Business Administration, Computer Applications in Business, Cybersecurity, Economics, Marketing, Mortgage Finance and Real Estate Investment. Plus two Certifications, the FAA-approved Dispatcher program and Real-Estate Investment. Currently the main focus of the Business and Economics Department is to continue with the process of moving towards ACBSP accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), with possible accreditation being granted in 2025.

The School is actively working to develop and offer 4+1 programs (in Aviation and Economics), fully online programs, master's programs, certificate and training programs, and new minors, in such areas as AI and Machine Learning. A 4+1 Program allows eligible students to take up to 16 credits of graduate classes while working towards their undergraduate degree. The benefits are, (a) students will pay undergraduate tuition for the 16 credits of graduate classes, and (b) students can receive both a Bachelors and Masters degree in 5 years (4+1).
