School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs
The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs is dedicated to providing a rigorous and experiential education that promotes intellectual growth, social responsibility, and career advancement for students from diverse backgrounds. Our curriculum equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become healthcare leaders and advocates for health and wellness within their communities.
We focus on reducing health disparities in urban populations and align our mission with York College's goal of nurturing engaged learners who become confident global citizens. The School comprises six departments offering seventeen programs, including Health and Physical Education, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Teacher Education. We provide in-demand bachelor-level programs, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Community Health Education, Gerontological Studies and Services, Health Promotion Management, Exercise Science, Nursing, Physician Assistant, and Social Work, as well as Teacher Education for various grade levels (childhood education for grades 1-6 and secondary education for grades 7-12 in Science, Mathematics, and Spanish, along with Health and Physical Education for PK-12).
Additionally, we offer a dual B.S./M.S. program in Occupational Therapy alongside four other graduate programs, which include Physician Assistant and master's degrees in Nursing and Social Work. York College stands out within CUNY by offering unique programs, such as the only accredited Gerontology Program, as well as Exercise Science and Public Health Programs. We also provide a part-time Master of Social Work option designed for working adults. Our professional programs are nationally recognized and accredited by various organizations, ensuring high standards and excellent employment prospects.
We differentiate ourselves from many other colleges and universities through our high passing rates on licensure and certification exams, extensive opportunities for student involvement, and grant-funded faculty-led research totaling millions of dollars. We also provide additional opportunities to obtain certificates in Gerontology and Maternal Health Disparities, all within our state-of-the-art facilities, which include a Maker Space, Nursing Simulation Lab, and Exercise Science Lab.
