The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs mission is to offer a rigorous, comprehensive, and experience-based education that fosters intellectual growth, inspires social responsibility, and enhances career advancement for students from culturally and academically diverse backgrounds. The course curriculum endeavors to ensure students attain the essential knowledge and skills that are needed to become healthcare professional leaders within their communities. The school is dedicated to promoting health and wellness for individuals, communities, and society by fostering practical applications, and positive health behaviors to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health, and quality of life. Reducing disparities and promoting health and wellness among urban populations; along with advocating for education and learning in schools, the workplace, and community-based organizations is the school's goal, which mirrors that of York College's goal of enriching the lives of students enabling them to grow as passionate, engaged learners with the confidence to realize their intellectual and human potential as individuals and global citizens.

The School consists of six departments and seventeen programs: Health and Physical Education, Health Professions, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, and Teacher Education. These departments provide an array of York College's bachelor level professional programs that are in great demand in today's workforce. These programs include Clinical Laboratory Science, Community Health Education, Gerontological Studies and Services, Health Promotion Management, Health Movement Science, Nursing, Physician Assistant, Social Work, and Teacher Education (Childhood Education (Grades 1-6 and Secondary Education 7-12), Science, Mathematics, Spanish; Health and Physical Education (PK-12). In addition, the School offers a dual B.S./M.S. program in Occupational Therapy, just one of our (4) Graduate Programs. The others are Physician Assistant and Master’s degrees in both Nursing and Social Work.

It is noteworthy to mention that the School has several unique programs in CUNY. The highlights are York is the ONLY CUNY with a Gerontology Program, an accredited Movement Science Program, an Occupational Therapy Program, a standalone accredited Public Health Program, a Seating & Mobility Clinic, an Accelerated Clinical Lab Sciences Program, and the ONLY Master of Social Work Program in Queens, now offering a part-time option tailored to the working adult learner.

All the School's professional programs are nationally recognized and accredited by: Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy (ACOTE), Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS), Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP), and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Other ways we stand out in front of many other Colleges and Universities are our High Passing Rates on Licensure and Certification Exams, our extensive Student Opportunities for Involvement and Participation Grant Funded Faculty-led Research in the millions, additional opportunities to take and gain Certificates in both Gerontology and Maternal Health Disparities, and lastly, our state-of-the art facilities that take learning to another level, including our Maker Space, Nursing Simulation Lab and Movement Science Lab.
