This course will examine the concept of international security by exploring its philosophical and historical origins, and how this issue has been studied by scholars. The course will explore the how international security has evolved from having a military and state security emphasis to including issues of human security and new forms of violence. Prospects for national and international security in the 21stcentury will also be discussed, touching upon relevant issues such as nuclear proliferation, human security, terrorism, cybersecurity, and climate change.
