The Language of Food

Description

This course explores the relationship between food and language. The vocabulary of food and prepared dishes, the historical origins of eating and drinking words, their forms and meanings, and their relationship to cultural and social variables are illustrated and analyzed. Social and cognitive issues in food advertising and in the language of menus are also investigated. Oral presentations may be required. This course can be offered as a face-to-face course, a hybrid course, or a fully online asynchronous course.
