Description
Representative works from the origins of Spanish literature to the present. In this survey course students will read a selection of Spanish texts in translation from each major literary period or movement. Theories of translation will be examined. These texts will be studied within the context of the cultural milieu of the day as well as within a comparative framework. Texts will be related to contemporary works from European and American literary traditions. Issues of ethnicity and gender will also be explored throughout the course. This course may be offered as a face-to-face course or a hybrid course.
