Description
This course is an introduction to the field of criminology. Students will examine the major theoretical issues, empirical explanations, and history of the study of crime through a sociological lens. The lectures and readings will encourage students to think critically about the central perspectives and issues in criminology. Topics covered include theories of crime causation, the politics and social policy surrounding crime prevention, the intersection of race, gender, andcrime, historical crime data and trends, the criminal justice system, and victimology.
