Clinical Chemistry

Description

This course covers the clinical significance of abnormal concentrations of serum analytes (eg., carbohydrate, proteins, hormones, enzymes, electrolytes, blood gases, tumor antigens, therapeutic drugs, etc.). In the lab,the chemical principles behind the most common methodologies are discussed. Students will perform various manual spectrophotometric assays, enzymes, and those involved in liver and renal diseases. Topics to be presented may include vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, enzymes, blood gases, therapeutic drug monitoring, and toxicology. This is a writing intensive course.
