If a student, whether matriculated (pursuing a degree) or non-matriculated (not pursuing a degree), who at the end of the Spring or Fall semester does not meet the retention standards of 2.0 or above (based on their cumulative GPA), they will be placed on academic probation at the end of the semester.

If a student is placed on probation, they will be notified in writing by the Office of the Registrar and the Committee on Academic Policy and Standards (CAPS). Students on probation may only enroll for a maximum of 14 credits or the equivalent. A student whose program includes developmental courses may register for a maximum of 19 hours of course work. Although a student may register for as many as 14 credits/19 hours, and/or be advised to take fewer credits.

Once a student is placed on probation and the student does not achieve the required term GPA of 2.01 by the end of the following Spring semester, the Office of the Registrar and Committee on Academic Policy and Standards will notify the student in writing that they have been dismissed, for academic reasons, after failing to meet the minimum retention standard while on probation.
