Tuition and Fees
Important Notice of Possible Changes: Tuition and fees described in this publication are subject to change at any time by action of the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York. If there is an increase in tuition or fees, any payments already made will be considered partial payments. The College will notify students about the additional amount due and the required payment date.
Office of the Bursar
Academic Core Building, Room 1H01
email: Bursar@york.cuny.edu
webpage: https://www.york.cuny.edu/bursar
The Office of the Bursar is responsible for the collection of tuition and fees and manages financial transactions between students, the college, and the community. The office adheres to departmental, college, university, state and federal policies and procedures.
Commitment Deposit
All students admitted to the baccalaureate programs are required to pay a non-refundable commitment deposit of $100. The deposit will be credited toward the student tuition and fees.
Payment of Tuition and Fees
Students must pay all tuition and fees by the payment due date. The Office of the Bursar will not mail registration invoices. Students may view their charges and payment due dates on CUNYfirst. Once a student registers for classes, that student assume a financial responsibility. If the student chooses not to attend, the student must drop the courses before the official first day of classes to avoid any tuition liability. Consult with the college’s Academic Calendar. Missing this deadline will result in a financial obligation.
Interest-free tuition payment plans are available through Nelnet for the summer, fall, and spring semesters. The payment plan allows students to spread their tuition payments up to a six-month period. Effective fall 2026, the non-refundable enrollment fee is $30 per term. Enroll online via your CUNYfirst account. For more information, contact Nelnet representatives Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at 888-470-6014.
Students have the options to pay their tuition and fees either online or in-person at the Office of the Bursar service window during business hours. Online payments are processed through the CUNYfirst ePayment system, which includes credit card, eCheck, and eSavings payments. Credit card payments are assessed a non-refundable 2.65% service charge for each transaction. The eCheck and eSavings payment options do not charge a service fee. In-person payments that include cash, money orders, bank checks, certified checks, and personal checks. Credit and debit cards are not accepted at the service window. All checks and money orders must be made payable to York College and have a current date. Note that third-party, postdated, and personal checks intended to pay prior semesters are not be accepted.
If a student submits a check or eCheck payment that is returned by the bank for any reason, they will be responsible for the tuition and fees owed, plus a $20.00 reprocessing fee for each returned check/eCheck. Checks will not be accepted for future payments, and a negative service indicator will be placed on the student's account. A stop payment on a check does not cancel a student’s registration; students must officially withdraw from classes.
If students do not pay their tuition, fees, and other college bills in full, their accounts may be turned over to a collection agency six months after the semester ends. Students will be responsible for all collection costs in addition to the amount owed to the college. A default judgment for nonpayment may also be reported to a credit bureau and reflected on the student's credit report. Any accounts sent to collections must be settled directly with the collection agency; the Office of the Bursar will not handle these debts.
For billing and payment information, visit the Office of the Bursar's website at www.york.cuny.edu/bursar.

Explanation of Student Fees
Note: Fees are non-refundable
FEE | DESCRIPTION |
Application Fees | Application fees cover the costs of application and admission. Noted below are the various application fees: · Undergraduate Freshman: $65 · Undergraduate Transfer: $70 · Undergraduate Non-Degree: $65 · Graduate: $75 |
Academic Excellence Fee | The Academic Excellence Fees provide critical resources and financial support to the unique needs of the Nursing Education and Physician Assistant degrees. |
Consolidated Service Fee | The Consolidated Services Fee of $15.00 ensures the continuation, expansion and establishment of critical university-wide services for all students. These services include, but are not limited to, the external processing of financial aid applications, the immunization program, the job location/development program, system-wide tuition and fee collections by the Office of the University Controller, and the administration of various tests. This fee is refundable if a student officially withdraws before the start of the semester/session |
Cooperating Teacher Fee | The Cooperating Teacher Fee is assessed to students having Cooperating Teacher status. Students must pay a $25.00 special non-instructional fee, $125.00 full-time or $62.50 part-time technology fee, depending on the number of enrolled credits any other-than-tuition charges (i.e. late registration, program change, etc.) |
Developmental Course Fee | All courses taken by part-time students will be charged on a credit basis except developmental courses which will be charged on an equated hours basis. Courses with excess hours due to laboratory or field work will be charged on a credit basis for part-time students. The tuition charged part-time matriculated students on a per credit basis in any one semester may not exceed the semester rate. In developmental courses where the hours exceed the credits, the equated hours will be used instead of credits to determine full or part-time status and fees. |
Duplicate Identification Card Fee | To obtain a duplicate ID card, the cost is $10.00. |
Excess Hours Fee
| Graduate students taking classes that have more contact hours than credit hours pay an excess contact hour charge. For example, if a 3-credit class meets 5 hours a week, a New York State resident student pays $65 per excess contact hour ($130 for 2 extra hours), and a non-New York state resident pays $85 per excess contact hour ($170 for 2 extra hours). |
Late Registration Fee
| A charge of $25.00 is made for registration after the close of the official registration period. This fee is not refundable. |
Make Up Exam Fee | When a student requests an examination at a time other than the scheduled time, and permission is granted by the College, a Special Examination fee is charged at the rate of $25.00 for the first examination and $5.00 for each additional examination. |
Material Fee
| Material fees support costs that are unique to a specific class which would be considered above and beyond the cost of instruction and basic instructional materials and equipment. Fees may be charged for materials used in laboratory, studio, and other situations. This fee is refundable if a student officially withdraws before the start of the semester/session. |
Online Infrastructure Fee | The Online Infrastructure Fee ($75) covers the administrative costs for students enrolled in fully online degree programs. All students enrolling in a degree, certificate program or course offered online will be charged each term. |
Readmission Fee | Students who are readmitted to the University college after an absence of three consecutive semesters (exclusive of summer session) shall be required to pay a readmission fee of $20.00. |
Returned Check Processing Fee | When a student's check is tendered to the college as payment of a liability and the check is not honored by the bank upon which the check is drawn, the student shall be charged a reprocessing fee. A separate $20.00 fee will be charged for each check that requires reprocessing. Electronic payments, made online, that are rejected for any reason will also be charged a reprocessing fee. The student will be required to satisfy the obligations, the returned check processing fee and a non-payment service fee of $15.00 for each due date missed. If a check or eCheck (electronic payment) is returned for any reason, the student's check writing privileges will be revoked. |
Statement of Account Fee | The Statement of Account fee of $5.00 is charged when a student requests a letter that details the cost of tuition and fees for a particular semester. |
Student Activity Fee | The Student Activity fee of $72.15 for full-time students and $52.15 for part-time students is assessed for student government and other student activities. This fee is refundable if a student officially withdraws before the official start of the semester/session. |
Technology Fee | The full-time technology fee of $125 or the part-time fee of $62.50 will be added to the bill. The technology fee for the summer session is $62.50. This fee is used to improve technology related services for benefit of students and faculty. The technology fee is non-refundable. However, if the following occurs, a refund will be granted: • The college cancels a course or courses causing the student to drop below full-time • The student is incorrectly billed by the college • The student officially withdraws prior to the first day of the semester/session |
Transcript Fee | This fee will be waived for transcripts to units of CUNY. Transcript requests must be made online through Parchment, the service provider for all CUNY institutions. For further information, visit the CUNY website for transcripts. |
Transportation Fee | Transportation fees include admission, entry, event, or participation costs for out-of-classroom experiences and related travel costs to off-campus events or experiences. This fee is refundable if a student officially withdraws before the official start of the semester/ session. |
Refund Policy
The date on which a change of program or withdrawal is submitted to the College through Schedule Builder, CUNYfirst, or the Registrar's Office will be considered the official withdrawal date. This date, rather than the last date of class attendance, will be used to calculate any refunds granted to the student. A full refund is available only if the student drops all courses prior to the official first day of classes as indicated on the academic calendar. Please note that no portion of the Association Fee, University Government Fee, Technology Fee, Consolidated Fee, Special Fees, or Penalty Fees is refundable.
Refund Schedule
Students must pay their tuition and fees by the payment due date when registering for courses. They can change their registration online using CUNYfirst or Schedule Builder. To receive a full refund (100%) of tuition and fees, students must drop all their courses before the first official day of the semester, as indicated on the academic calendar.
It is important to note that students who take a leave of absence after the first day of classes are responsible for paying tuition and fees in accordance with the Refund Schedule. Additionally, federal and state financial aid guidelines differ depending on the specific type of aid awarded to students. If a student receives financial aid and plans to change their enrollment status, they should contact the Financial Aid Office to determine their eligibility for financial aid.
Requests for tuition liability reductions may be requested when documented extenuating circumstances occur during the semester. The application for the Request for Tuition Liability Reduction with instructions may be found on the Office of the Registrar’s webpage.
Tuition Waivers
Tuition waivers may be changed or abolished by The City University Trustees without notice, and at all times are subject to budgetary limitations that have been established for The City University of New York.
Bursar Holds
Bursar holds will be placed on student accounts that have outstanding and past due debts. Such indicators will prohibit students from receiving services from the college, including but not limited to, registering for future semesters, until the entire obligation is satisfied.
